PURPOSE:To raise wear resistance, lubricating property and durability especially for a vapor deposition thin film type magnetic recording medium by providing a protective film on a magnetic recording layer by spattering an organic high polymer containing an amide coupling in a main chain. CONSTITUTION:A protective film is formed to a uniform thickness on a magnetic layer of a magnetic tape, a magnetic disk, a magnetic drum, etc., especially, on a thin film magnetic layer formed by a vapor deposition method, by vapor- depositing a polyamide of a fatty group or an aromatic group containing an amide coupling in a main chain, by a spattering method. Since a thin protective film is formed uniformly by the spattering method, it is possible to obtain a magnetic recording medium for a high density recording, which has a good electromagnetic converting characteristic and resistance to wear, is capable of holding a lubricating effect for a long period of time, and excellent in its durability. |
