PURPOSE:To obtain a tape or the like having superior traveling performance and causing no increase in the coefft. of friction without reducing the S/N ratio by using inorg. powder and perfluoroalkyl polyether dispersed in a binder to form the back layer of a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:A coating liq. contg. inorg. powder of <=0.8mum average grain size such as powder of CaCO3, carbon black or MoS2, perfluoroalkyl polyether, and a binder such as one or more among nitrocellulose, polyester, thermoplastic polyurethane, etc. is applied to the rear side of a support having a magnetic layer on the front side such as a polyester film, and the applied coating liq. is dried to form a back layer of 0.5-1.5mum thickness having <=0.15mum surface roughness Ra. Thus, a magnetic recording medium having superior traveling performance and durability is obtd. The unevenness of the back layer is not transferred to the magnetic layer even in a wound or superposed state, so the S/N ratio is not reduced. |
