PURPOSE:To increase the hydrophilicity of the surface of a tool and improve the adhesivity and proliferativity of an adhesion-dependent cell and miscibility of medium at a low cost, by oxidizing the surface of a cultivation tool such as petri dish made of a synthetic resin under irradiation with ultraviolet ray. CONSTITUTION:At least a part of the surface of a cultivation tool or examination tool such as petri dish, tray, bottle, etc., made of a synthetic resin (e.g. PS resin, acrylic resin, etc.) is oxidized by ultraviolet irradiation to decrease the contact angle of the treated surface and water. A low-pressure mercury lamp is effective as the ultraviolet lamp because it generates strong ultraviolet rays having a wavelength of 184.9nm to generate ozone from oxygen and a wavelength of 253.7nm to generate active oxygen from ozone.
