PURPOSE:To prevent the frost heaving of a ground by setting an elastic water- stop sheet having many holes to which shape-memory alloys having working characteristics at given temperature between the ground's surface and the max. freezing depth. CONSTITUTION:Many holes 12 are provided for an elastic material, e.g., chloroprene rubber, etc., and shape-memory alloys having a working characteristic at nearly 0 deg.C are attached to the peripheries of the holes 12 to form a water- stop sheet 11. The sheet 11 is set between about 1/5 L-L from the ground's surface, where L is max. freezing depth. When the temperature of underground becomes almost 0 deg.C in the winter season, the alloys 13 begin to work to close the holes 12 by pulling their edges. Since no water is supplied from unfrozen soil side, no icelens occurs on the frozen soil side to prevent the occurrence of great frost heaving.
