PURPOSE:To obtain a lactone polyol having excellent hydrolytic resistance, by subjecting lactones to ring opening polymerization using a higher alkanediol and alicyclic diol as an initiator. CONSTITUTION:Lactones are subjected to ring opening polymerization using a >=6C higher alkanediol, e.g. 1,6-hexanediol, 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol, etc., and/or alicyclic diol, e.g. 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol, etc., as an initiator to afford the aimed polyol expressed by the formula (Y is a residue obtained by ring opening polymerization of 4-8C lactones; R is a group obtained by removing two terminal OH groups from the initiator; n and m are numbers of added mol; n+m is 2-50).
