PURPOSE:To reduce the number of processes and a manufacturing cost by winding a previously hardened long-size band plate of stainless steel plate having a similar section to measuring tape piece around a drum, and cutting said steel plate, after grinding a top face part an a bottom face part while rotating and continuously sending out said steel plate. CONSTITUTION:A long-size band plate 1 which is wound around a drum 2 rotated at a defined speed, is continuously sent out in proportion to a rotating speed, while an upper grinding wheel 5 continuously grinds its top face 6 at such a speed that burning is not generated and in such a degree that clogging does not occur. And, the bottom face 8 is equally ground by a lower grinding wheel 7 which is installed a defined length rearward from the upper grinding wheel 5, and both top and bottom faces 6, 8 are ground in the sectional form of a square and the band plate 1 is cut to the lengths of long and short pieces by means of a continuously delivered cutting device 12, to mass produce raw material pieces (b), (c). It is also possible to form an unground part to ensure the welding of a square by lifting up and down the upper and lower grinding wheels when grinding is carried out for a defined period of time.
