摘要 PURPOSE:To improve coloring density and response speed of the titled element and to make the element to low power consumption by composing the intermediate insulating layer of a thin film laminate type whole solid-state EC element of two layers of a solid acidic layer and a solid basic layer. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2, an electrochromic (EC) layer 3 of oxidative color developing layer, the intermediate insulating layer 4, the EC layer of a reductive color developing layer 5 and a transparent electrode 6 of the outermost layer are laminated on a transparent substrate 1 in this order. The intermediate insulating layer 4 is composed of two layers of the solid acidic layer 4a and the solid basic layer 4b. The solid acidic layer 4a is formed mainly of a solid acid composed of an acidic oxide, and the solid acid means a solid substance capable of donating proton H<+> to a reacting substance or the solid substance acceptable an electron pair from the reacting substance. A solid basic layer 4b is formed of mainly a solid base composed of a basic oxide, and the solid base means the solid substance acceptable the proton H<+> from the reacting substance, or the solid substance capable of affording the electron pair to the reacting substance. Thus, the characteristics of the EC such as the memory, display quantity, response speed and life etc., of the EC are improved, and the low power consumption of the element is obtd.
