PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer suitable for fibers, etc., by continuous operation stable for a long period without depositing scales on pipes, etc., by carrying out polymerization in a solvent prepared by adding a metal halide to an N-substituted amide type solvent while irradiating with ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:(B) p-Phenylenediamine is dissolved in (A) a solvent prepared by adding preferably 1-10wt% metal halide, e.g. LiCl, etc., to an N-substituted amide type solvent, e.g. N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, etc., and (C) terephthaloyl chloride in an amount equimolar with the component (B) is added and blended to form a polymer solution, which is then fed to a kneading polymerization machine while being irradiated with ultrasonic waves, preferably at 20-500kHz and polymerized, preferably at <=80 deg.C until a powdery or granular solid is formed to afford the aimed polymer.
