PURPOSE:To miniaturize the titled device by arranging a light source and an image pickup element closely and using one image forming optical system so as to apply the radiation of luminous flux and the image forming of a scattered light from the original face onto the image pickup element thereby reducing the conjugate length of a fiber lens array. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with an original lighting light source 3 made of a solid-state light emitting element, a linear solid-state image pickup element 5 and an image forming optical system 4 to form the original image with nonmagnification onto the photodetecting face of the solid-state image pickup element 5. The light source 3 and the image pickup element 5 are arranged closely and the radiation of the luminous flux from the light source 3 to the original face 2 and the image forming of the scattered light from the original face to the image pickup element 5 are applied by using one image forming optical system 4. Thus, since the volume occupied by the original lighting light source in a conventional original reader is nearly eliminated, the fiber lens having a short conjugate length (distance between object and image) is used and remarkable miniaturization of the reader is attained.
