PURPOSE:To produce safranal, crocin or its analog, by extracting female organ of Crocus sativus and culturing the organ in an artificial culture base containing cytokinin. CONSTITUTION:Pistil or corresponding organ of Crocus sativus is planted in an artificial culture base containing carbon source, nitrogen source, etc., e.g. Murashige-Skoog medium, White medium, Gamborg medium, Linsmeier-Skoog medium, etc., preferably added with >=0.1ppm each of cytokinin and auxin and is proliferated by maintaining in dark place, light place or alternate dark and light place at 15-40 deg.C. The obtained neoplastic pistil-like organ can be cultured under the same culture condition or a condition suitable for the fattening, growth and maturation of the organ. The objective safranal, picrocrosin, their analog, crocin, crocetin and their analog can be separated from the artificially cultured organ. |
