PURPOSE:To shorten time required for processing a read command by suppressing the transmission of a read-out attribute to a attribute reader part if a document image read attribute that a processing part transmits to the reader part is the same as that shorted in a buffer. CONSTITUTION:Viewing a CRT display 1, a user instructs the reader 5 to read documents through the use of a keyboard 1b and a pointing device 1a. Then the reader 5 checks and sees a power source and a CPU 10, and simultaneously writes the specified document image read attribute in the prescribed area of a program memory 11. The latest document image read attribute that the CPU 10 specifies is written in the RAM 10a of the CPU 10. It reports the document image read attribute stored in the program memory 11 to the reader 5 through a reader/printer interface 6. If this attribute is the same as that stored in the buffer, it is not transmitted to the reader 5.
