PURPOSE:To enhance the uniformity and denseness and to improve the weather resistance and durability by using a surface treating agent contg. alum, an org. polar solvent and specified slightly soluble alkaline earth metals as essential components. CONSTITUTION:This surface treating agent contains 0.1-150g/l alum, 1-50vol% org. polar solvent and alkaline earth metals as essential components. The alkaline earth metals are used in the form of slightly soluble salts of the metals or a slightly soluble Al, Zn or Pb salt may be used. An Al-base metal having an oxide film is immersed or electrolyzed in the surface treating agent to color the oxide film white or off-white.
