PURPOSE:To simplify the roll construction of a rolling mill and to facilitate roll changing by using simple cylindrical rolls to constitute work rolls, providing a box-shaped roll holder to each roll and supplying a pressure oil from ejection holes provided to the inside peripheral face of the holder. CONSTITUTION:The work roll 1 is of the simple cylindrical shape which is not provided with neck parts at both ends and the work roll holder 2 is of the box shape formed with a holding hole 3. The inside peripheral face of the hole 3 has the same or approximately the same shape as the shape of the cylindrical surface of the work roll 1 and is bored with plural pieces of the ejection holes 4 for the pressure oil on the surface in the longitudinal direction thereof. The holes 4 are connected to pressure oil supply passages 6 bored in the work roll holder 2 and the passages 6 are connected to a pressure supply source. An oil film is formed between the inside peripheral face of the work roll holder and the cylindrical surface of the roll by the pressure oil supplied from the holes 4. The changing of the work roll is thereby facilitated and since there is no need for coolant nozzles, the cooling control is facilitated by the supply of the pressure oil.
