PURPOSE:To lead out a position detection signal and a speed detection signal as individual signals at the same time by using the same sensor by leading a voltage corresponding to the rotating speed of the rotary disk of a rotary encoder out of a couple of electrodes by utilizing electromagnetic induction. CONSTITUTION:A light emission part 5 consisting of a light emitting element and a light reception part 6 consisting of a light receiving element are arranged in the thickness direction of the rotary disk 1 opposite each other across the rotary disk 1, a slit plate 8 having a slit part 7 corresponding to light transmission parts 3 is arranged between the light emission part 5 and light reception part 6, and pulses outputted by the light reception part 6 are counted to know the angle of rotation of the rotary disk 1, so that the output signal of the light reception part 6 is the position detection signal. A couple of permanent magnets 10 are arranged opposite each other across the rotary disk 1 and a non- transmission part 4 which is a conductor crosses a magnetic field established by both permanent magnets 10; and the voltage led out by the electromagnetic induction is proportional to the speed, so the terminal voltage across a load resistance R is used as the speed signal. Consequently, the angle of rotation and rotating speed of one rotary disk 1 are led out as individual signals.
