PURPOSE:To provide a printer capable of appropriate automatic gain control, by designating a sampling point for automatic gain control by a system- controlling circuit. CONSTITUTION:A sampling point for an AGC circuit 1 is designated by a system-controlling circuit 8, whereby the level of an input image signal at an arbitrary point can be detected, and an amplification factor of the AGC circuit 1 can be determined. Specifically, no sampling point is designated by the system- controlling circuit 8 for character areas, whereas a sampling point is designated by the circuit 8 for areas other than the character areas. By this, the effects of the character areas on the AGC are eliminated, and appropriate AGC can be achieved. |
