PURPOSE:To achieve the axial alignment of optical fibers of high accuracy by pressing grindstone to the outside circumference of a hollow cylindrical ferrule and grinding the outside circumference thereby correcting the outside circumference of the ferrule so as to become concentrical to the insertion hole of a bushing as a center. CONSTITUTION:A bushing 1 of free-cutting steel or rubber of slightly high hardness of which the insertion hole 11 and outside diameter have been worked simultaneously to have higher concentrical accuracy is fitted and adhered or staked to one end of a ferrule 2 of which the inside diameter is slightly larger than the outside diameter of an optical fiber 4 having a sheath 4. A supporting bar 6 is inserted into the through- hole 11, and the ferrule 2 is supported by a mandrel 7 which is inserted to the other end of the ferrule 2 concentrically to the bar 6 and which can freely rotate around its axis, thence grinding stone 8 is rotated, is reciprocated to the axial direction of the ferrule 2, and is pressed to the outside circumference, whereby the outside circumference is grund. In this way, the centers of the through-hole 11 and the ferrule 2 are aligned. The bare fibers 5 of optical fibers 4 are butted with good accuracy without deviation by using the obtained terminal members 3. |
