PURPOSE:To advantageously obtain the titled compound useful as an antimicrobial compound is excellent purity and color tone, by hydrolyzing and thermally decomposing a readily available 4-aminouracil as a raw material, adding an arylsulfonic acid, neutalizing and washing the resultant product. CONSTITUTION:A compound expressed by formula I (R1 is methyl or ethyl; R2 is acetyl or ethoxycarbonyl; Ar is arylsulfonyl) is hydrolyzed with an aqueous solution of an alkali hydroxide, e.g. sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, etc., to give a compound expressed by formula II (M is alkali metal), which is then thermally decomposed in the presence of a carbonate, e.g. potassium carbonate, etc. An arylsulfonic acid, e.g. p-toluenesulfonic acid, etc., is then added to give a salt derivative, which is then dissolved is an aqueous solution of an alkali and neutralized to provide a trihydrate. The resultant trihydrate is subsequently taken out and washed with ethyl acetate to afford the aimed compound.
