PURPOSE:To sufficiently absorb a large torque applied to a pinion by reducing the pressure contacting force of a friction brake with a transmission member, by means of a clutch member when said pinion is meshed with a ring gear. CONSTITUTION:When a pinion 5 is meshed with a ring gear, the end of the pinion 5 is brought into contact with a pinion stop collar 35 and its movement is checked. Thereby, since the outer peripheral edge part 75a of a friction plate 75 is brought into contact with the opening end part 54a of an outer cylinder 54, the friction contact force of the friction plate 75 which presses an intermediate ring 74 via a friction member 74b by means of a disk spring 76 can be reduced. Thereby, a rotating torque from the friction plate 75 is transmitted while being accompanied by a relative slides of members. Thereby, a turning force is gradually transmitted to the pinion 5, which is not subjected to a large impact force as a reaction from a ring gear. Accordingly, the fatigue, deterioration, etc., of the pinion 5 can be eliminated contributing to a long life.
