<p>PURPOSE:To obtain the titled substance in high yield and purity, by oxidizing 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene in a mixed solvent containing acetic acid or propionic acid and a liquid ester in the presence of a catalyst containing a heavy metal such as Co, Mn, etc., bromine and an alkali metal. CONSTITUTION:2,6-Diisopropylnaphthalene or its oxidized derivative is oxidized with molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst containing a heavy metal such as Co, Mn, etc., bromine and an alkali metal. The above reaction is carried out in a mixed solvent containing (A) an organic monocarboxylic acid comprising acetic acid and/or propionic acid and (B) >=50wt% liquid ester having a carbon number of >=4. The component B is preferably acetic acid ester or propionic acid ester of ethylene glycol, gamma-butyrolactone, etc., and the mixing ratio of A:B is preferably 95:5-30:70. The component B should be stable to oxidation and chemicals.</p> |
