PURPOSE:To prevent rising up of a negative can and improve initial leakage by preliminarily sealing a battery by inward curling of the upper circumference of a positive can. CONSTITUTION:A positive pellet 5 and a separator 8 are placed in a positive can 4, then a U-shaped gasket is inserted into it. An electrolyte absorbent material 8 and negative mix 9 are placed, then electrolyte is poured on them. This positive unit is set in a jig B, and a negative can is set in a negative can jig 1 of a jig A. When the jig A is lowered, the negative can is inserted into a positive unit 11. When the jig A is continued to lower, a spring 2 is compressed and the upper circumference of the positive can 4 is bent inward with a crimping die 3. A preliminarily sealed battery is sealed by conventional sealing method to obtain an alkaline manganese battery having good leakage resistance. |
