PURPOSE:To use a signal processing means that works in one mode usable for another mode by dividing the quantized data of channels more than n-pieces into divisions of the prescribed number of bits, and rearranging the resulted divisions, and supplying them to a recording signal generation means in accordance with a prescribed format. CONSTITUTION:An input analog signal inputted to an input terminal 1 is converted to a digital signal by the A/D conversion part of an A/D-D/A conversion circuit 2, and supplied to a conversion means 3 which is an external circuit. Then in the means 3, a data under a mode IV, for instance, is converted to a data under a mode I, then subjected to prescribed signal processings by a signal processor 4 constituted of LSI that works in the mode I, and outputted from an output terminal 5. In this constitution, a compression circuit 8 to compress data from 16 bits to 12 bits and a scramble circuit 9 are provided to the recording side of the means 3, and to the reproduction side of the same 3, a stretching circuit 11 to elongate data from 12 bits to 16 bits, a descramble circuit 10, and an interpolation circuit 12 are provided.
