PURPOSE:To judge the quantity to be increased or decreased of an exposure quantity at the time of cutting at next time, by performing exposure to form a monitoring groove to judge the developing state of a signal pit at plural levels, in a non-signal recording area, when the exposure to form the signal pit is performed. CONSTITUTION:In a recording original disk 1, five development monitoring areas 4a-4e being arranged in a circumferential direction are provided at a signal recording area 2 on its intermediate periphery, and at a part of the non-signal recording area 3 on its outer periphery. And to form a groove for the accurate tracking of a recording signal on the recording original disk 1, groove exposure is performed with the exposure quantity of half of the exposure quantity for signal recording. Also, the exposure on the development monitoring area 4d is performed with the same exposure quantity D as that of the groove exposure, however, the exposure quantity for the areas 4a-4e are changed respectively, and assuming the depth of the groove formed in the area 4b as D, the depth of the grooves of the areas 4a-4e are formed as 5D/4, 3D/4, D/2, and D/4. In such way, by measuring those grooves by a monitor signal, it is possible to decide the exposure quantity capable of forming the depth of the signal pit at the optimum level at the next time of cutting.
