PURPOSE:To improve accuracy of the starting time and the ending time for recording and erasing a sector and to facilitate the securing of compatibility of the titled recording/reproducing device by starting a counter by means of a reference angular position detection signal, etc. and controlling the times for recording, reproducing, erasing, etc. CONSTITUTION:A time difference detection circuit 3 detects the time difference between a reference position detection signal PG detected from the yoke of a pulse generator and waveform-shaped and a reproduced index signal IND. A delay circuit 4 delays the signal PG depending on the result of said detection to supply a starting signal to a clock counter 5 at a specific time even in case there is flucture in the generating time of the signal PG because of the status of the titled recorder/reproducer. The recording is started after the mode is changed over during the prescribed counting by the counter 5, and it is ended after the said counting is over, and thus the recording is achieved into a sector. Erasing, etc. are similarly executed. As a result, the accuracy of the starting and ending times for a recording and erasing a sector is improved, and the compatibility can easily be secured.
