PURPOSE:To minimize line control words and to improve scan capability by providing a data transfer control section to a line scanning section in a line controller so as to complete a cycle steal in a scan cycle. CONSTITUTION:A line scanning section 2 is provided with a data transfer control section 15. The line scanning section 2 executes data fetch store, parameter fetch and status store synchronously with the internal timing of the line scanning section 2 constituting a specific bit count value in character transmission/ reception by the control of the data transfer control section 15. Further, only an area of a transmission character decomposition is provided as a character relation buffer area in the line control word in the line scanning section 2 and one character of cycle steal for the preparation of next transmission character is applied for each character to execute consecutive transmission.
