PURPOSE:To suppress the occurrence of a texture in the course of an error diffusing method, by providing an error distributing and updating means which adds an error distributing value to the accumulated error of a corresponding picture element position in an error storing means and again stores the sum as a new accumulated error. CONSTITUTION:A distributing factor producing means 12 is provided with storage devices 15 and 16 to store two distributing factor sets K1A-K1D and K2A-K2D in advance and stores the factor sets before processing picture elements. When a synchronizing signal 14 corresponding to the X-or Y-direction picture element processing period given from a synchronizing signal input terminal 13 is inputted, a select signal generator 17 outputs select signals 22 to selectors 18-21 at prefixed picture element processing intervals. The selectors 18-21 select either the factor set K1A-K1D or K2A-K2D from the two distributing factor sets stored in the storage devices 15 and 16 in accordance with the select signals 22. Then the selected distributing factor set is outputted as the distributing factors KA-KD corresponding to the picture element position of an error storing means 1.
