PURPOSE:To output information in a 2nd memory for printing on recording paper at any time, by storing information read by means of a photo-electric converter in a 1st memory and the information of the 1st memory in the 2nd memory after the information is divided at every character and converted into characters of a prescribed form through character codes. CONSTITUTION:Information read from an original 2 is preserved in the 1st memory and input images are preserved. Then a recognition/conversion arithmetic circuit 8 makes a peripheral distribution process and black coupling process and recognizes characters by performing a character segmenting process. After recognition, the recognized characters are preserved in a character code memory 15 after they are converted into character codes and the character codes are converted into characters by means of a character pattern generator 14. Thus printing type images are obtained. The output of the generator 14 is stored in the 2nd memory 9 and the information stored in the 2nd memory 9 can be fetched and printed with a printing element 12 at any time. Even if the characters on the original 2 contain hand-written ones, various kinds of ones, etc., the printed information can be arranged and read easily, because the printed characters are of a fixed size and form.
