PURPOSE:To remarkably increase a writing speed by impressing plural high frequency voltages of mutually different frequencies to a surface acoustic wave generating means which is so arranged that a surface acoustic wave travels at right angles to the optical path of waveguide light made into parallel light. CONSTITUTION:When the surface acoustic wave 28 emitted by the surface acoustic wave generating means 29 travels in a direction crossing the optical path of the waveguide light 24', the waveguide light 24 is diffracted and deflected by the surface acoustic wave 28. The angle delta of deflection varies with the frequency of the surface acoustic wave, so plural high frequency voltages of mutually different frequencies are impressed to the surface acoustic wave generating means 29 to generate a surface acoustic wave on which mutually different frequency components are superposed, so that the waveguide light 24' is deflected and branched in plural different directions. An optical recording medium is therefore irradiated with plural light beams emitted out of the optical waveguide 22. Consequently, ON-OFF modulation is imposed upon the high frequency voltages to modulate the respective beams, with which signals are recorded on plural tracks at the same time. |
