PURPOSE:To obtain a relatively inexpensive Ti-Ta alloy extremely excellent in resistance to nitric-acid corrosion, by specifying a composition consisting of Ta, Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt, Ir, Os, and Ti. CONSTITUTION:The Ti-Ta alloy has a composition consisting of, by weight, 1-6% Ta, 0.01-0.4% of at least one element among Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt, Ir, and Os, and the balance essentially Ti with inevitable impurities and also has extremely superior resistance to nitric-acid corrosion. In the above alloy, extremely superior synergistic effect on resistance to nitric-acid corrosion is produced by adding platinum group elements such as Ru, etc., which have practically no effect of independent addition, to Ti together with Ta. As to the additive quantities of the above Ta and platinum group elements, no effect is produced when they are below the lower limits and, moreover, excessive addition beyond the upper limits is uneconomical since effect is saturated.
