PURPOSE:To smoothly operate the titled device even after it has remained unused for many hours, by winding up a small quantity of web when a fixing roller is being stopped, before a preliminary rotation of the fixing roller. CONSTITUTION:Before a fixing roller 5 starts a warming-up rotation, a cleaning mechanism is driven for some time and a web 1 is wound up by 1-2mm, and thereafter, the roller 5 is rotated. In this way, before the operation is started, by winding up the web by a small allowable quantity, a toner which has stuck to the surface of the roller 5, when the previous fixing operation has been ended is eliminated, and a cleaning action is started from a clean web surface, therefore, an image of a good quality is always obtained. In this way, even after the device has remained unused for many hours, it can be operated smoothly.
