PURPOSE:To efficiently remove scales peeled during leveling from the surface of a rolled stock by spouting a high pressure fluid in the width direction of the rolled stock by respective descaling nozzles installed between upper leveling rollers and lower leveling rollers. CONSTITUTION:In the case that a rolled stock 1 presses between upper and lower leveling rollers 2a-2n, 3a-3n, high pressure water, etc., are spouted onto the upper and lower surfaces of the stock 1 from an upper descaling nozzle 4a and a lower descaling nozzle 5a to blow scales off. Concurrently, a large bending deformation is given to the stock 1 during the spouting to eliminate strains and to remove scales. Peeled scales are removed by spouting high pressure water, etc., from upper descaling nozzles 4b-4n and lower descaling nozzles 5b-5n. By this device, bites of scales and generation of flaws between the surface of the rolled stock and leveling rolls are prevented.
