PURPOSE:To realize a functional electrode allowing highly accurate measurement, by providing a high polymer film to allow selective transmission of material alone which is generated or consumed in a reaction supported by a biological catalyst and also electrochemically detectable. CONSTITUTION:A selective transmission film 32 and a biological catalyst immobilized film 33 are formed sequentially on the surface of a platinum electrode 31 as electrode material. The selective transmission film 32 selectively transmits material alone which is generated or consumed in a reaction involving a biological catalyst and also electrochemically detectable. Material herein used is, for example, polyaryl amine as obtained by treating a high polymer having a first amino group by a crosslinking agent. The biological catalyst may be any one only if it allows electrode-activating material such as oxygen and hydrogen peroxide to be directly or indirectly generated or consumed in a reaction supported thereby. The functional electrode thus arranged enables the analysis of a desired component handily and in a short time without any pretreatment because of a high substrate selectivity thereof.
