PURPOSE:To obtain an easily discriminated and easily observable hard copy even on a dot superposed part of both pictures to be synthesized by constituting the titled device so that exclusive OR processing and priority processing can be selected in addition to OR processing. CONSTITUTION:An OR processing picture synthesizing part 4 executes picture synthesis by the OR processing of respective dots. An exclusive OR(EOR) processing picture synthesizing part 5 synthesizes a graphic pattern and a character pattern by the EOR processing. Since the synthesizing part 5 executes the EOR processing of respective dots on both the pictures, the pictures are synthesized so that the superposed part of luminescent point dots is inverted to non- luminescent point dots. A text priority processing synthesizing part 6 processes a text picture with priority at the time of picture synthesis, so that graphic data are not outputted when text data exist. Said operation can be obtained by using an inhibit circuit for inhibiting the output of graphic data in an area including a text.
