PURPOSE:To reduce the electrifying time to a sensor to a required minimum, and to lessen the number of light projections of infrared rays to reduce power consumption, by electrifying the sensor so that infrared rays are projected from a light-projecting element, only when a manual pushbutton switch is turned ON. CONSTITUTION:The operating surface 7a of a pushbutton switch 7 is arranged so as to be freely projected above or depressed below the upper surface of a faucet 2, and when the operating surface 7a is depressed, the switch is turned ON to start the electrification from a battery 5 to a control part 4. And when a user depresses the pushbutton switch 7, the electrification from the battery 5 to the control part 4 and a sensor 3 is started, so that the infrared rays from a light-projecting element 3a are projected. And when the user reaches his hands inside a washbasin 1, the projected infrared rays are reflected, so that a light-receiving element 3b receives them to output a light-receiving signal to the control part 4, thereby a main valve 8b is opened.
