An alloy for use in electromagnetic stirrer rolls in continuous casting contains 0.1-0.6% C, 0-2.0% Si, 5.0-15.0% Mn, 5.0-15.0% Cr, 5.0-13.0% Ni, 0-1.0% V, and one or both of 0-1.0% Mo, and 0-2.0% Nb, balance being Fe and inevitable impurities. V is pref. at least 0.1% and less than 1.0%. The alloy is soln. heat-treated. Magnetic permeability is about 1.005, hardness is about 200 VHN and weldability is good. Partic. alloy contains 0.35% C, 0.75% Si, 8.95% Mn, 8.80% Cr, 9.05% Ni, 0.86% Mo and 1.46% Nb and V less than 1.0%.
