MECHANICAL MANUAL BRAKE GEAR OF HYDRAULIC DISK BRAKE FOR VEHICLE

The manually operated handbrake or parking brake e.g. for a motor vehicle consists of a cable linkage (20,21) which is connected to one end (17) of a 180 deg. crank arm (16) e.g. in drawn wire or rod material. The other end of the arm (12) has a longitudinal groove which locates a pivoting cam (10). As the arm is rotated, the cam acts on the end of a cylinder (7) which pushes the cylinder and brake pad support (5) into contact with the brake disc. A wire spring (11) returns the arm to its original position and a coil spring (9) returns the actuating cylinder to the released position. A flexible rubber gaiter (24) protects the lever mechanism from ingress of dirt and dust.
