PURPOSE:To measure the partial discharge of a cable over the total length thereof with high sensitivity, by measuring the measuring objective part of a cable having an extruded outer semiconductive layer only with respect to a limited short part and allowing the cable to successively pass through a short measuring electrode over the total length thereof. CONSTITUTION:A cable 1 has a simple metal shield layer 7 preliminarily applied to the outer periphery thereof. The metal shield layer 7 of the cable 1 is removed at an A-point in the measuring region on the way between a drum 2 and a drum 3 and again applied to the cable 1 at a B-point to become a metal shield layer 7'. A blind terminal 6 is applied to the tail end of the cable 1. The winding start end of the cable of a take-up drum 3 is inserted in the body of the drum 3 to be connected to the charge terminal 4 provided to the side surface of the body of the drum 3. The measuring electrodes of partial discharge detectors 15, 15', 15'' are respectively mounted in the measuring section between the A-point and the B-point to measure partial discharge. After the measurement of this measuring section is finished, the new adjacent measuring section is measured. This operation is successively repeated over the total length of the cable 1 to complete measurement.
