PURPOSE:To obtain a drug complex capable of readily improving solubility of sparingly water-soluble drugs, by supporting a sparingly water-soluble main drug on the surface of a modified starch under specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A drum complex obtained by supporting a modified starch having <10% water-soluble content and 3-15ml/g swelling volume, e.g. partial alpha-starch, on a sparingly water-soluble main drug, e.g. tolubutamide of phenacetin, by a spray drying method. The amount of the sparingly water-soluble main drug is <=10 times based on the weight of the modified starch. The modified starch is substantially nonbirefringent starch powder, obtained by heating cereal starch species, e.g. corn starch, rice starch, wheat starch, etc., in the presence of water and drying the heated starch species without substantially destroying the outer shell pellicular structure and having substantially preserved outer shell pellicular structure of the raw starch. The solubility of the sparingly water- soluble drug can be improved simply by supporting the modified starch on the surface in a short time and blending condition is moderated since the starch having high chemical stability is used.
