PURPOSE:To continue copy control even when a stylus is separated from the surface of a model on a projection part and to maintain the accuracy of digitizing data by storing a restoring position at the time of detecting the separation of the stylus from the surface of the model, decelerating a tracer head and then restoring the tracer head to the restoring position on the basis of positional control. CONSTITUTION:The restoring position at the time of detecting the separation of the stylus from the surface of the model is stored, the tracer head is decelerated and then restored to the restoring position on the basis of positional control. After returning the control to the copy control again, the tracer head is moved by the copy control only in the normal direction until the displaced position is reached to a reference displayed position, and while accelerating the tracer head, copy is continued. At the time of separating the stylus from the surface of the model, the tracer head can be surely restored to the preceding restoring position and copy can be continued again from the restored position, so that accurate digitized data can be obtained.
