<p>The extruder, designed in particular for extruding food stuffs, has a high speed endless screw (18), which is supported in its housing in an axial direction by means of an axial support composed of pistons (34) arranged in a housing plate (26) and a plate (22) adjacent to the screw. The pistons (34) are movable axially, when a pressure liquid is fed behind these via a pipeline (54). A fluid is fed via a pipeline (58) to form a fluid film (56) between the front face of the piston (34) and the rear face of the plate (22). The pistons are provided for this purpose with annular grooves (40) which communicate with the front face of the pistons by means of channels. The excess fluid can be evacuated by a channel (60). Several pistons of this type are arranged horizontally in a circle, so that even in the event of slight changes in shape, the plate (22) has a constant support surface on its rear face.</p> |
