In a method of detecting the readiness of an oxygen measuring probe for operation, the oxygen measuring probe is situated in the exhaust-gas duct of an internal combustion engine and, in conjunction with a control device, serves to regulate the mixture preparation for the internal combustion engine. The output voltage of the oxygen measuring probe is integrated using an integration time constant which depends on the internal resistance of the oxygen measuring probe. The rate of change of the output voltage is measured. Above a predetermined value of the rate of change, readiness for operation is detected. In a circuit arrangement for carrying out the method, the input of an integrator whose output is connected to the input of a microcomputer via an analog/digital converter is connected to the output of the oxygen measuring probe.
