The invention relates to the use of a roller chain with pointed link plates for transporting a film web of thermoplastic material in a thermoforming machine. In this case, the point has a flank perpendicular to the transporting direction and parallel side faces. This has the effect of avoiding the problems existing in the case of known pointed link plates with regard to friction, abrasion and advancing inaccuracies, caused by the tendency for the film web to lift off from the points. <IMAGE>
