As a protection against polarity reversal with little voltage drop, the protection against polarity reversal also being switchable, particularly for terminals in telecommunications systems, a bridge circuit of at least four VMOS transistors with gate protection is proposed in which the VMOS transistors are operated inversely in the turned-on state. A modification of this principle allows a bidirectional electronic switch, which has a low forward voltage (0.1-0.2 V) with a high reverse voltage (300 to 400 V), to be implemented as replacement for relays by means of two VMOS transistors connected in series with opposite polarity.
