Angle grinder comprising a disk-type toothed wheel (11), driven by a gear system, on a grinding shaft (12), at the end of which is supported a clamping device (13) with axially adjacent grinding disk flanges (14, 15), between which a grinding disk (16) can be clamped axially. The disk-type toothed wheel (11) is arranged on the grinding shaft (12) with a clearance and can move in relation to the grinding shaft (12) at least within certain limits. The drive torque through the gear system is transmitted to the shaft (12) by means of axial drive lugs (21, 25) while maintaining this relative mobility. In this way it is possible to avoid oscillations of the toothed wheel in relation to the disk (16) and eliminate the noise produced thereby during starting-up and on the stoppage of the gear system.
