On account of the unavoidable production tolerances, a calibration of each individual concertina-type gas meter is indispensable. It is known, for the purpose of calibration, to exchange pairs of intermeshing gearwheels in steps within the appliance, until the necessary measuring accuracy is reached. For the purpose of recalibration, action must be taken in the concertina-type gas meter. In order to make calibration easier, the concertina-type gas meter contains a continuously axially displaceable crankshaft (29) with three crank pins (30, 31, 32), on which engage the pivoting arms (8, 9), provided with long holes (36), of the concertina shafts (7) and two one-armed connecting levers (48) which move the shell slides (15) in oscillation via two two-armed levers (41, 42).
