The invention relates to an envelope 30, comprising a compartment 29 into which items can be pushed, which is open on one side, which is formed from a blank of paper or the like and on the front sheet-like blank 28 of which there is formed, in the region of the top end portion 5 which is directed away from the base 27 of said compartment 29, an adhesive closure flap which can fold about a folding edge 1 and can be connected to the rear, sheet-like blank 26 of the compartment 29 by means of an adhesive connection. In the region of the folding edge 1 a tear-resistant thread 4 of small diameter is arranged on the inner side 17 of the front, sheet-like blank 28 in such a manner that at least one of the end portions 7, 8 of the thread 4 projects beyond the lateral end 9, 10 of the folding edge 1 (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
