Sets of three filter tips arranged end-to-end are loaded into a hopper for sepn. and incorporation into cigarettes at the paper wrapping stage. The front of the hopper is closed by an extensible screen unwound from a roller, with its top edge bound to a frame carrying a detector. When the top of the stack of filter tips falls to a min. level requiring replenishment, a receptacle with a plate carrying a pack of new filter tips is rotated into the hopper, and opened from beneath by displacement of a shutter. The pack is emptied progressively by raising of the frame and movement of the receptacle by guide sleeves, a crossbar and a nut on a threaded rod.
