A herbicidal composition containing as an active ingredient a compound of the formula <IMAGE> (I) wherein R0 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, and R1, R2 and R3 each represent a hydrogen or halogen atom, or a lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or lower alkenyloxy group, which is especially useful for application to aquatic rice paddies, and novel compounds of formula (I) wherein R0, R1, R2 and R3 have the same meanings as defined above, provided that R1, R2 and R3 do not represent hydrogen atom at the same time.
