Videocassette tape spool (10) including a wear button piece (24) which is formed as a separate, small piece and which projects beyond one of the flanges (14, 22) of the tape spool (10). The wear button piece (24) is molded of a highly abrasion-resistant polymer and is mounted to the hub (16) of the spool (10) by means of a cylindrical stud (40) projecting from the hub (16) and a hexagonal blind bore (33) formed within the wear button piece (24) which accepts the stud (40) in an interference fit.
