<p>PURPOSE:To reduce quantity of information of a vector quantized index by using an inner product calculation for a distortion arithmetic section of a vector quantizer and controlling number of stages of quantization of the tree retrieval vector quantizer depending on the amplitude component of a vector and deciding the final number of quantization stages from the result of quantization decoding of the obtained ampli tude gain. CONSTITUTION:The vector inner amplitude component is obtained by an amplitude component calculating section 4 and the amplitude gain as deeper retrieving incase of large or shallower quantization stage number in case of small is outputted from a tree retrieval vector quantizer 6 depending on the component size in response to the amplitude/quantization stage number corresponding table 5. After the amplitude gain is subject to prediction difference DPCM quantization and DPCM decoding, the result enters a 2nd amplitude/quantization number of stage corresponding table 8, the quantization stage number is obtained again from the quantized amplitude gain and an output vector index in response to the number of stages is selected and outputted. The 2nd amplitude/quantization stage number corresponding table 8 is given at the decoder side to obtain the quantized stage number from the amplitude gain subject to DPCM decoding to attain the decoding of the output vector index.</p> |
