PURPOSE:To attain input and transmission of characters with high quality by providing a code generating section, a character generator geneating a pattern corresponding to the code generated from the section and a selection means selecting either a hand-written input or a code input. CONSTITUTION:A KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese character) converter 201, a keyboard 6 and an interface 46 constitute a code generating section 50. At first a code input from the key board 6 is inputted to the KANA/KANJI converter 201 from the interface 46. When the command of non-conversion/ KANA-conversion or KANJI-conversion is inputted from the keyboard 6, the KANA/KANJI converter 201 generates an address of the character generator 47, the character data is outputted from the character 47 and inputted to a video memory 47 and a zone code 202. A bit image expanded in the video memory 42 is displayed on the screen of its own terminal equipment and stroke information subjected to zone coding is displayed to an opposite terminal equipment.
